Ruben Alcoba

Ruben Alcoba, Esq., is registered before the United States Patent and Trademark Office as a patent attorney. A member of the Florida Bar, Mr. Alcoba is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. He engages in the prosecution of patent and trademark applications, litigation in both state and federal court, and intellectual property-related business matters.

Mr. Alcoba received a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Florida International University in 1995 and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Miami School of Law in 1998. He served in the United States Army from 1985 to1988. Mr. Alcoba is fluent in Spanish.
 
Amaury Cruz 
 
In 1991, after a successful career as a newspaper and magazine writer, editor, and translator, Mr. Cruz graduated with honors from Florida State University College of Law. He was an articles and notes editor of the Law Review. He received book awards in International Business Transactions and Comparative Law-The Civil Law Tradition. He also won second prize in the Nathan Burkan Memorial Copyright Writing Competition at FSU.

Since 1991, Mr. Cruz has concentrated on intellectual property and also engaged in general litigation and appeals. He is admitted to the Florida Bar, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Martindale Hubbell has awarded him the highest possible rating (AV) for his ethics and professional skills.

Mr. Cruz has published several scholarly pieces, including the award-winning What's the Big Idea Behind the Idea-Expression Dichotomy?-Modern Ramifications of the Tree of Porphyry in Copyright Law, as well as numerous newspaper and magazine articles, essays, and other writings. A former partner of the law firm of de la O & Marko, he has a native command of written and spoken Spanish.

Craig Kirsch
 
In 2001, Craig Kirsch graduated summa cum laude from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a concentration in pre-medicine studies and in 2006 he graduated from the University Of Miami School Of Law.
 
While in law school, Mr. Kirsch was on the Dean’s List, he received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Intellectual Property Research and was a quarter finalist in the 1L Moot Court Competition.  Mr. Kirsch also served as a student mentor during his second and third year of law school.
 
After graduating from law school and becoming a member of the Florida Bar, Mr. Kirsch completed additional science courses at the university level to satisfy the requirements to sit for the United States Patent Bar.  Having passed the United States Patent Bar, Mr. Kirsch is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office as a patent attorney.  Mr. Kirsch is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Southern district of Florida.
 
Mr. Kirsch has lived in southern France, speaks French fluently and he is accredited as a French speaking attorney by the French Consulate of Miami.  

Rick Ruz   
 
In 2003, Rick Ruz graduated magna cum laude from Florida International University with a Bachelor of Business Administration, and in 2007 he graduated from the FIU Law School.  A member of the Moot Court Team, he was Vice-President of Appellate Advocacy and made the Dean's List every semester. He also won a Best Brief Award in the Fall of 2005, as well as Book Awards in Contracts, Comparative Corporate Law and Remedies. 
 
Prior to joining Cruz & Alcoba, Mr. Ruz clerked for a sole practitioner and the City of Miami's Office of the Inspector General.   As a firm associate, he engages in trademark and copyright litigation as well as ex-parte proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and inter-partes proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.  Mr. Ruz, who is fluent in Spanish, is a member of the Florida Bar.

Martin E. Jerisat

Martin E. Jersat is Of Counsel to the Firm. Mr. Jerisat holds a masters degree in intellectual Property Law from the John Marshall Law School, a certificate of Intellectual Property from Franklin Pierce Law School, a law degree from the University of Miami School of Law, and a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering.


Mr. Jerisat is a registered patent attorney and is licensed to practice law in Illinois. Mr. Jerisat focuses his practice on drafting and prosecuting patent and trademark applications, and patent litigation. 

Juan J. Mendoza

Juan J. Mendoza is Of Counsel to the Firm. Mr. Mendoza has over ten years of experience as an immigration attorney.  He practices exclusively in the area of immigration law.  He has extensive experience representing clients with the United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (“formerly INS”) with their applications for adjustment of status, asylum, cancellation of removal, naturalization, temporary protective status, petition for alien relatives, and petitions by employers.  In addition, he has extensive experience representing clients with their non-immigrant and immigrant visa applications with the Department of State, applications with the Immigration Court during removal proceedings, appeals with the Board of Immigration Appeals, Federal District and Circuit Courts.

Mr. Mendoza has written several articles for the local Hispanic newspapers and has appeared on radio and television stations on several occasions to provide comments into current changes in immigration. 

He is fluent in Spanish and conversational French.
